TYSON'S CORNER CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP 2002
The Scholarship Committee of the Tyson's Corner Chapter is pleased to offer one (1) scholarship for professionalism in our chosen career-acquisition.
A scholarship will be awarded for academic excellence and for outstanding performance in a college-level program focusing on contract management and based upon the professional attributes essay response. The scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, will be awarded to help a young professional studying contract management. It is offered to foster continued study in the acquisition field, with the ultimate goal of having another professional join our honored profession.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to compete and be considered for award of this scholarship, you may not receive 100% reimbursement from another scholarship source and must meet the following basic criteria:
You must be enrolled in a degree (undergraduate or graduate) or certificate program in a federal government or accredited private or public university. [i.e., a recognized academic program in acquisition leading to a degree e.g., associate, bachelor, graduate, law, or certificate) from a Washington metropolitan area institution of higher learning.
Your stated or planned major must be in the contracts or acquisition field (or related business or finance area). Applicants must specifically state their continuing education plans for the academic year 2001-2002.
You must be a full-time or a part-time student.
You must not be a past winner of a scholarship offered by any NCMA Chapter or the National Chapter of NCMA, nor qualifies for tuition reimbursement by your company or place of employment. You may not be receiving a full scholarship from any other source.
Applications will be evaluated by a committee, which will score the applications in accordance with the following criteria:

ACADEMIC (70 Points)
SECTION A (40 of the 70 Points)
Name/address of college/institution attended in 2000-2001
Name of academic degree program enrollment; Title of certificate or degree sought; expected date of certificate/degree
Program Grade Point Average/Class Rank
Official transcript (need not be certified) showing class rank and grade point average of completed program courses and title and grade of each course completed.
List continuing education plans for the academic year 2001-2002.
Points will be given based on class rank/grade point average of program courses completed, number of acquisition courses completed, number of acquisition courses taken this academic year, and academic awards earned from institution attended/granting degree/certificate.
SECTION B (30 of the 70 Points)
6. An essay of not more than 500 word which answers the following question from the applicant's perspective:
"What exemplifies professionalism in your chosen career? What personal attributes do you currently possess/can describe that demonstrates you will be a contributing member to the profession relative to professionalism."
High school seniors may, if they choose, focus instead on what s/he thinks professionalism means, and how s/he plans to uphold and demonstrate those values during his or her future career.
REFERENCE STATEMENT BY ADVISOR/FACULTY MEMBER/SUPERVISOR AND NOMINEE
(30 Points)
Provide one letter of recommendation by an advisor/faculty member/supervisor that addresses areas such as your professionalism, qualifications, skills, self development initiatives, contribution to the acquisition profession, etc.
Additionally, a narrative statement by the nominee may be provided as a separate attachment (maximum 300 words), citing your achievements in the acquisition field, as well as some areas you consider have been self-development activities, volunteer activities, and work experience in contracts, acquisition, or business that demonstrate your commitment to the acquisition profession.
BEING A MEMBER OF NCMA IS NOT A REQUIREMENT OF THIS SCHOLARSHIP. However, points will be given for documented length of membership in NCMA; attendance at monthly NCMA meetings, acquisition workshops or conferences, and offices or committee chair positions held. (Please note: students are eligible to join NCMA at a reduced membership rate of $25. Please see http://www.ncmahq.org for details.) If your parent is an NCMA member, points will be granted based upon your parent's participation in NCMA.

If you would like to release your application to other professionals outside the committee at the discretion of the committee members, (e.g., interested potential employers), you must specifically so state within your cover letter and give permission for such release.
