Congratulations members! Our 2007/2008 Program Year is off to a great start!
The Basic Contracting Courses have once again almost sold out for the entire Fall Session. It seems like more and more companies are taking advantage of our discount by purchasing all 8 courses up front. David Black is doing a tremendous job in organizing the classes, facilities and getting Corporate Sponsors to host the training classes. We are very appreciative of both Oracle Corporation and the immixGroup, Inc. for helping us with facilities and administrative assistance. The facilities at both companies were extremely well suited for training.
Our new website is 100% on schedule for roll out in the second half of our Program Year. Stuart Turner our President-elect has managed the developers into full functionality for the site. Stuart’s investigating web hosting companies so if any member knows of a reliable company that wants to help support the Tyson’s Chapter thru partial sponsorship with web hosting please contact Stuart immediately.
Jim Bogush as worked diligently with Bellevue University to develop an online CPCM course that provides college level credits. The Board in today’s meeting has approved our going forward with Bellevue to develop a contractual agreement and define the end-to-end process so that we might roll out a pilot program this spring. This online training will enable significantly larger student participation in a collaborative online environment. This new program takes Tyson’s Education/Training into the 21st century with eLearning and coincides with the roll out our new website. In addition, this new eLearning program will foster more regional collaboration between Tyson’s and the other local chapters and we hope to foster a revenue-sharing relationship with this and our Basic Contracting courses.
Pete Tuttle and Alex Carroll have initiated the Tyson’s Corner Mentoring Program. We have 25 members enrolled but only 12 Mentors actively participating. ATTENTION SENIOR MEMBERS – we need your help to match all registered Mentees with a qualified Mentor to maximize our Program. Please contact either Pete or Alex to get involved with our Chapter’s future and future leaders now!
NES Seminars is headed by Eugene Scott this Program Year and he has a couple pf
NES Seminars lined up. He also has a slight problem – he needs a facility large enough to accommodate 50 to 60 people. Please contact your company representatives to see if your company is willing to help our NES Program by volunteering their facility for 1 day. Please contact Eugene directly for details.
Our Programs VP Ron Falcone has lined up several extremely interesting Guest Speakers for the remainder of our Program Year. This month Nov. 27th at Maggiano’s Teresa Sorrenti and Earl Warrenton of GSA’s Integrated Acquisition Environment (IAE) will be our guest speakers. This is a very hot topic especially with the transition GSA is in the process of implementing. I’m sure the IAE will have a positive impact on many Industry contractors both large and small. Please signup now because I think this Hot Topic will sell out fast – visit our website and get your seats now!
Our Membership has grown almost back to last years’ totals. There seemed to be a slight glitch in National’s database that may have affected out actual headcount but that’s been resolved and as of today we have 1,493 paid members in the Tyson’s Chapter. We’d like to see our membership consistently above 1550 so we need to recruit new members – preferably younger members that will carry on the work of the chapter for decades to come. I’d like to challenge all members to reach out and contact a colleague, competitor or someone in your network that you know would benefit from being an active member in NCMA Tyson’s. We can achieve 1550 before the end of May so let’s all do what we can to achieve our membership goal.
Tom Ringwood our VP Treasurer says we’re profitable for this Program Year in every event we’re doing. That’s great news and means that we can give back to our members by sending more members to local, regional and national events. I encourage all Board Members to nominate members to attend these events and notify the Board by email to facilitate acceptance of your suggestions.
Corporate Sponsorships for Tyson’s Chapter: We need to reach out to large, medium and small companies as sponsors of Tyson’s events. This is a perfect venue for any company to reach highly trained, educated and certified professionals in a highly dynamic Industry & Government environment. The cost of sponsorship is extremely cost effective for the exposure and networking capabilities with the chapter, region and nationally. Please take this opportunity to review and distribute the attached Corporate Sponsorship information to your company. Any interested parties can contact Hans Yeager directly.
In summary, our chapter is off to a very good start and we need your continued support and help to maintain this momentum throughout the Program Year. World Congress is scheduled for the 13th thru 16th of April in Cincinnati, OH. I suggest registering early and there’s a call for papers and presenters. Tyson’s Chapter has a tradition of fully supporting the World Congress with papers, presentations and guest speakers. The Board would like to see maximum participation of Tyson’s members this year.
Lost and Found! After wondering where a few chapter items had disappeared to, we did an investigation and found both items: our chapter digital camera and the large table cloth with the NCMA logo. Suffice it to say a member had been asked to take care of them after an event 2 years ago. They were retrieved from that member and are now back in the Chapter’s hands and ready for use. The camera will be used at all chapter events to record those events for inclusion on our website. The table banner will decorate our sign-in table at our monthly hot topic seminar at Maggiano’s.
You’re Board Members and I look forward to meeting you at the various Chapter events that we have scheduled this Program Year and at our Monthly Hot Topic Seminars. It’s your membership, participation and continued interest in our Chapter’s goals, objectives and events that enable Tyson’s to be successful.
November is our last monthly event until the New Year so may each of you enjoy a very Happy and Joyful Holiday Season!
Thank You All for Your Time, Efforts and Continued Assistance.
Kindest
Regards,

Bob Johnson, President
